A modern residential project with warm timber materials and open spaces

In Tromsø, in an established residential area with views towards both mountains and the city, Tofan Arkitektur has developed a modern residential project combining functionality, warm materials, and high living quality.

Tailored expression – private towards the road, open towards the view

A key desire from the clients was a more closed and private façade towards the road, which has been resolved with a minimalist material palette and few window openings. At the same time, the façade facing the view is opened up to the maximum, with up to 80% glazing, providing natural light and fantastic outlooks from the living areas.

Material use and volume

The project is characterised by the consistent use of warm timber materials. The vertical timber cladding provides a vibrant and natural expression that interacts well with the seasons. The building's forms are distinct and modern, yet balanced with soft details and sheltered outdoor spaces.

Light, air, and flexible layouts

Internally, the home is light and open, with large glazed areas, generous ceiling height, and light timber surfaces. The spatial layout is flexible and adapted to various life situations – with social zones, quiet bedrooms, and seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors.

This project is developed with a focus on views, privacy, and well-being. The architecture does not seek to dominate, but to frame life – with sound solutions, natural materials, and calm spaces.
